Hardcover Book Design
This is the second design of 2 in an assignment where we were instructed to design both a paperback and high-end hardcover version of the same book. I chose to design covers for The Princess & The Goblin by George MacDonald since it is credited among C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien's major inspirations and is extremely underrated.

The cover was mostly created using Illustrator and the interior layout was made on InDesign. I used Photoshop to design the final mockups and to add embossing and leather effects to the cover.

As this design was meant to be high-end, I was able to use some more creative elements than I had been while designing the paperback version. The most prominent examples of this are the colored portions of the interior layout as well as the embossing of the cover. Since this hardcover was marketed more towards adults than children, I had the freedom to use a somewhat less legible typeface on the cover and a blackletter font for the drop-caps. The culmination of all these differences clearly sets this design apart from that of the paperback and gives it more appeal to the older audience.
